I still remember in starting of my engineering collage time i have been always confused about that web designer and web developer both are different things or same. But finally i got it that role of web designer and web developer completely different.

Role Web Designer

A web designer specialist of designing part how your website look to users. His only focused on user interface like website color combination, SEO friendly placing image, editing or creating image with the help of Photoshop. A Designer focus on designing programming like HTML, CSS, and other image creating tools like Adobe Photoshop etc.

A Web Designer should have good design eye and an understanding of layout, hierarchy, color theory, typography and web font. A strong grasp of UX/UI design foundations is also important. It helps you create a seamless design that smoothly guides users through a site without them getting frustrated.

Role of Web Developer

A web developer develope the foundation of sites, commonly starting from the earliest stage, and knows dialects particular to the web. HTML, Javascript, JQuery and CSS are among the apparatuses in their unit. Designers, verifiably, don't concentrate on making something look outwardly engaging yet make sites with clean code and that are in fact sound.

Although Web Developers are sometimes referred to as programmers, their skills usually exceed those of a conventional software developer.  Think of a Web Developer as more of a technical expert with programming skills.

Which one you should Choose

Actually its depend on your project. In most projects you need both a web designer and web developer.

If you starting a new project then first of all you need a perfect good looking website then you shoul focus on web designer. Because web designer understand better on your website looks.

But if you already have a website you want to redesign specially its database website or E-commerce website then you should choose a web developer. Because web developer always have basic knowledge of design part also and he can manage your database programming very well.
